Julie Voltin, DVM, Practice Owner
I have been the owner of Uptown Animal Hospital since 2010 and it has been such a great experience!
I was born and raised in Southern California and currently reside in Signal Hill. I received my bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and went to Ross University where I obtained my doctorate in veterinary medicine. I have been working in veterinary hospitals since I was 16 years old and I love working with both dogs and cats in all aspects of medicine.
In my spare time I am chasing my little boy, Remy, around and enjoying time with my husband, our two dogs, Stella and Mickey and Miller, the cat! I also enjoy knitting and reading. I look forward to meeting you and your pets and establishing a long healthy relationship with you!
Katie Marrie, DVM, Associate Veterinarian
I first worked at Uptown from 2008-2011 originally with Dr. Sakamoto and then with Dr. Voltin. The experience was incredible as a new graduate from UC Davis Veterinary School in 2008. I got “called away” for seven years to help in the field of Shelter Medicine. It was very rewarding and sometimes heartbreaking work.
It is exciting to be back at Uptown (March 2018). I love helping figure out what might be going on with your dogs and cats when they aren’t feeling well and guiding you through the treatment process.
I originally grew up in Phoenix and moved to Californai where I went to UCSB for my undergrad degree. Currently, I live in San Pedro and Catalina with my husband. I enjoy paddle boarding with our dog Casi, going for walks with our cat Nala, and helping raise foster kittens.

I’ve always had a love for animals ever since I can remember and have wanted to help them any way I could. I have 2 rescue dogs and 1 very spoiled cat. Shannon Pouliot, Veterinary Technician
Hi! I joined the Uptown team in July 2018. I have worked in the veterinary field as a technician for over 10 years. My favorite part of the job is being a part of the Uptown family and watching your fur babies grow up is such a reward! I have two dogs of my own who light up my life, but I consider all animals my babies! In my free time I enjoy surfing, crafting, spending time with my family and learning more about my profession, particularly wild life rehab and small animal medicine.
Rodrigo Mata, Veterinary Technician
I joined the Uptown team in August 2018. I have worked in the veterinary field as a technician for about one year. My special interests at work include making sure our patients get the treatment they need to be healthy. I attended Platt College where I received my degree in Veterinary Technology in 2018. Since I was little, I’ve always had a wide range of animals in my care and always wanted to care for them in any way possible. I have two dogs, two leopard geckos and african cichlids. In my spare time I enjoy going on adventures with my son and looking for new animals.
Dana Harris, Veterinary Technician
Tammy Mills, Ward Attendant
Hi, I’m Tammy.
I’ve been with Uptown since 1999. I love animals and have two rescue cats, “Kitty” and “Fred.”
I take great care of the pets that board here, giving each one the attention they need and deserve while they are away from their homes and people. I feed, water, medicate, walk and clean up after them, and I keep a close eye on the animals that are recovering from surgery, as well.
I hold pets for exams by the veterinarians and treatments by the technicians, so that everyone (including the humans) remains safe and unhurt. I make sure to treat all of our clients’ pets the way I would want my own pets treated, so my job also includes dispensing unlimited love and hugs to them!
Wynetta Heard, Ward Attendant
Hi. My name is Wynetta. I received my Certificate in Animal Care from the Long Beach Unified School District ROP Program in 2008 and have been working at Uptown Animal Hospital since May of 2006.
My responsibilities are to make sure your cats and dogs are clean and fed, and to make them feel loved and comfortable during their stay with us. I also assist the Doctor’s and Vet Tech’s with exams, x-rays, prepping for surgery and holding for procedures.
